Launched in celebration of the company's centennial anniversary, 1911 by Hickory Chair is a poignant collection of couture designs that are deliberately retrospective - yet decidedly modern. Inspired by Hickory Chair's rich archive, and by the spirit of American craftsmanship the company has upheld throughout the twentieth century, these new upholstery and wood products pay tribute to the quintessential styles, classic genres and striking forms handcrafted by the company's talented artisans during its first hundred years. Edited and envisioned by Hickory Chair's own design team, and brought to life by the craftspeople in the company's Hickory, North Carolina, workroom, the 1911 Collection is a true continuum of style and heritage - translating the continental influences and uncommon craftsmanship of the last century for new audiences and a new century.
Like her father, the late 20th Century design legend Mark Hampton, Alexa Hampton has the rare ability to make classic design comfortable - and make people comfortable with classic design. The classic, comfortable style that has become Hampton's hallmark has been translated into a collection of made-to-order furniture by Hickory Chair. Each of the designs exhibit Hampton's sophisticated eye as well as her passion for distinct geometries, proportion, contrast and composition. The pieces also showcase her rare talent for designing furniture that combines classic inspiration with modern sensitivities to comfort, scale and elegant, personalized details.
Decidedly European in feel, the Atelier Collection is an assortment of found objects from travels abroad. From French, Italian and other southern European countries this grouping of bedroom, dining room and living room items is complimented by optional finishes, fabrics and cabinets that can be custom ordered as either a bar cabinet, armoire or display cabinet.
Hable for Hickory Chair
Inspired by Mid-Century Modern and Scandinavian design, world history, travel, contemporary art, and textiles; the Hable for Hickory ChairTM furniture collection combines form, texture, and color into one harmonious grouping that brings a fresh dimension to the extensive brand offering. The new collection features modern bedroom, dining room and living furniture. Susan Hable shares "Hickory Chair is part of an outstanding tradition in American manufacturing. By inviting Hable to collaborate, they created designs with a decidedly global point of view that sits as comfortably in a traditional setting as it does a modern home or an informal city loft." Hickory Chair's collaboration with Susan and Kate Hable began in 2011 when the industry's first exclusive fabric collection, Hable Construction for Hickory Chair, was introduced. An exclusive throw pillow collection followed in 2013. The Hable for Hickory Chair furniture collection is a visionary relation between form and texture. Touch, patina, color, contemporary living, and practicality are all expressed by elegant lines and combinations of materials. Refined, elegant lines catch the eye, leading to unexpected pairings and playing with possibility. This dialogue results in a harmony that occurs as each piece's story unfolds, creating meaning and spreading an aesthetic that invites you to live in--be a part of--a creative space. Inspired by the predecessors of mid-century design and pioneers like Gio Ponti, Scandinavian design, world history, travel, contemporary art, and textiles, Hable furniture is the natural progression of Hable Construction, the Design firm that leads the field in color and textiles printed in the US.
Since 1941, Hickory Chair has provided classic forms inspired by the antiques found in the elegantly appointed interiors of plantation homes found along the James River in Virginia. This lovely collection recaptures the spirit and details that embody the fine aesthetics of 18th Century design including balance in scale, refinement in shapes and lines, intricate inlays and crisp carvings, acanthus leaves, shells, and ball and claw feet. Each piece is crafted to Old World standards and with your finish selection patinas are hand-rubbed to a depth that reflects beauty and personalization.
Mariette Himes Gomez
Like Mariette Himes Gomez herself, the internationally acclaimed designer, this signature collection for Hickory Chair is a study of elegant balance and contrasts. Her astute traditional perspective cultivated as a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, the New York School of Interior Design and as an associate of design luminaries like Edward Dureell Stone, Albert Hadley and Sister Parish is evident throughout the 88-piece collection. So is the characteristically clean, more updated style she's been articulating since founding Gomez & Associates in 1975. Crafted of the finest materials, and reflecting equisite details and finishes, each piece of this collection is a refreshing blend of classic style and contemporary significance.
For over twenty years, Atlanta designer Suzanne Kasler has created warm, inviting environments that strike a balance between elegant, traditional design and practical comfort. She has collaborated with Hickory Chair to bring that same spirit to her extensive line of furniture, Suzanne Kasler for Hickory Chair. Kasler is known for her love of all things French and brings a fresh mix of Continental flavor and classic style to her interiors. It was recently written, "The Atlanta-based designer brings southern charm, European sensibility, and an architectural eye to her interiors...." By mixing both antiques and modern pieces, she creates environments that are timeless, sophisticated, and, most importantly, livable. Kasler's passion for perfection and detail is consistent with Hickory Chair's tradition of personalized home furnishings. The collection features couture details, such as grosgrain ribbon trim, slipcovers with graceful ties, and custom-made hardware for a perfect finishing touch. Kasler also brings her distinctive use of color to this collection with a fresh finish called Birch, which is a cross between a warm white and a neutral taupe, with a hand that shows light wear.
